Tony Adams

When I was a lad playing in the Essex Leagues there was nothing like this around. We only had Shoot and Score to read and of course there would be no mention of any action in the youth football scene. Well !! I guess you've got it made..Your very own dedicated magazine. I have supported Youth Football Magazine from the very beginning as I think it's a brilliant idea.

All the best
Tony Adams

"I've been lucky to have such a close-knit family. My dad was always interested in football. Then mum and my sisters became interested because of me. They all helped me a lot, before I joined Arsenal. Then they took a back seat, because they reckoned I'd benefit more from professional coaching and advice. They've backed me all the way. They've been there on the good days and they've been brilliant on the bad ones. That gives me strength and I'm sure it helps me with my football." The family influence remains strong off the pitch. You won't find Tony surrounded by agents, financial advisors and hordes of hangers-on. If he wants an opinion, he's just as likely to ask his dad.

Referee's Say

I passed my Referees'exam on 24 May 1974 then you only needed 50% or over to pass. These days its a 6 week course and a two part exam. You need more than 75% to pass.

I have refereed all age groups from 10-50 and/am often asked "who have you refereed who is famous7". Some who come to mind are Nicky Hammond. goalkeeper of E.M.H. went to Arsenal and then Swindon. Paul Ince of Ford Rovers. West Ham. Manchester United and Inter Milan. Tony Adams Dagenham United and now at Arsenal. Steve Potts. Dagenham United and West Ham. Frank Lampard. Heath Park and West Ham another, West Ham player is Lee Hodges whom/remember from Lakeview and finally Bradley Alien of Romford Royals and at QPR, and I am sure there are many others, who knows?
The laws of the game have changed over the years not all for the good in my opinion i,e. the offside law and the Pass back, To my mind are spoiling the game of football.

The other bad part of our game I am afraid to say are the parents, they seem to leave their common sense in bed when they come out on a Sunday morning. I will of course keep trying to change them but/don't think I will have a lot of luck.

YOUR JOKES

A match between two non-League teams took place last winter
in the North of England. It had been raining heavily all
week and the ground resembled a swamp.

However, the referee ruled that play was possible and
tossed the coin to determine ends.

The visiting captain won the toss and, after a moment's
thought, said, 'OK - we'll take the shallow end!'

A spectator at a match in the North
of England kept up a constant barrage of
insults and derogatory remarks directed against the referee.

Finally the ref could stand it no longer.
He marched over to the stand and,
looking the noisy spectator squarely in the eye, shouted,

'Look here - I've been watching
you for the last twenty minutes . . .'

'I thought so,' the spectator shouted back.
'I knew you couldn't have been watching the
game!'

Struck in the wall....

In the middle of the defensive wall at a free kick, the left back took the ball right in the crotch and he passed out from the pain. When he woke up he found himself in the local hospital. Though still in pain, he asked the doctor,

"Doc, is it bad? Will I be able to play again?"

"Yes, you should be able to," replied the doctor.

"Oh, great. So I can play for my club again?" said the man, feeling much relieved.

"Well, just as long as they've got a women's team," said the doctor.

Blame the parents

Three fans were bemoaning the fact that their team kept losing and was facing relegation.

"I blame the manager" said the first, "if he would sign new players then we could be a great side"

"I blame the players" said the second, "if they made more effort I am sure we would score more goals"

"I blame my parents", added the third, " if I'd been born in another town I'd be supporting a decent team!
