A round-up of last Wednesday's matches. GROUP TWO Denmark are top with 13 points from six games ahead of Norway, who have 11 points after a 1-1 draw at home to Romania, who have 10 points. Norway earned a point thanks to a late Ole Gunnar Solskjaer penalty. Solskjaer equalised after Romania captain Christian Chivu was penalised for handball in the 78th minute. Romania had taken the lead through an Ioan Ganea shot just past the hour.
GROUP THREE After Marek Jankulovski missed a penalty, Vladimir Smicer gave the Czechs the lead just before half-time. Jan Koller scored from the spot on 72 minutes, while substitutes Jiri Stajner - with his first international goal - and a brace from Vratislav Lokvenc completed the rout. Austria recovering from the shock of losing to Moldova on Saturday by beating Belarus 5-0.
GROUP FOUR Sweden took the lead in the 16th minute when Mattias Jonson managed to steer a Fredrik Ljungberg cross back to Svensson, who fired the ball past Jerzy Dudek. After setting up Marcus Allback just before the interval for Sweden's second, Svensson scored with a superb free kick on 71 minutes. The win lifts Sweden to 11 points from five games, while Hungary, 5-0 winners over San Marino, also have 11 but from six games. Latvia have 10 and Poland seven.
GROUP FIVE Substitute striker Miroslav Klose headed them into the lead with
one minute remaining and striker Fredi Bobic doubled their lead two
minutes into added time.
Iceland moved into second place, two points behind, after
a stunning 3-0 win in Lithuania.
Scotland, who held Germany to a 1-1 draw in Glasgow on Saturday,
dropped to third place.
GROUP SIX A draw against Ukraine, Saturday's shock 1-0 home defeat by Greece and Wednesday's stalemate has left automatic qualification out of their hands. Greece, who beat Ukraine 1-0 on Wednesday, are the new surprise leaders on 12 points, Spain have 11 and Ukraine 11. The Greeks seized a vital 1-0 win over a stubborn Ukraine side thanks to a late strike from Angelos Haristeas. GROUP SEVEN Second-half goals from substitute Gokdeniz Karadeniz and striker Hakan Sukur saved Turkey's blushes. Vlatko Grozdanovski put the visitors ahead in the 23rd minute before Nihat Kahveci lashed in a long-range equaliser four minutes later. Artim Sakiri put Macedonia back in front almost immediately,
sparking a shower of coins and bottles from the terraces, fronted
by lines of Turkish riot police.
England visit Turkey in October for a clash that could decide who
wins the group.
GROUP EIGHT Croatia and Belgium both secured wins to keep in touch with group leaders Bulgaria. Niko Kovac gave Croatia a 1-0 win over hosts Estonia. Estonia goalkeeper Mart Poom kept the visitors at bay with an inspired display until Kovac headed in a corner in the 77th minute. Midfielder Bart Goor scored twice to guide Belgium to a comfortable 3-0 home win over Andorra. Goor put Belgium ahead on 20 minutes, with Wesley Sonck getting the second just before halftime. The result takes Belgium to 10 points, the same as Croatia, who beat Estonia 1-0 earlier on Wednesday, and one behind leaders Bulgaria.
GROUP NINE Striker Francesco Totti sweetly volleyed a Christian Panucci cross from the right past Finland goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen. An Alessandro Del Piero shot sealed the three points in the 73rd minute. Italy moved to 10 points from five matches, two points behind surprise group leaders Wales who have 12 points from four matches. In the group's other game on Wednesday, Azerbaijan shocked Serbia & Montenegro with two late goals to earn a surprise 2-1 victory - their first win for two years. Branko Boskovic had put the visitors ahead in the 27th minute, but Gurban Gurbanov levelled the score at 1-1 with an 88th-minute penalty before Samir Aliyev hit the winner in stoppage time.
GROUP 10 Koebi Kuhn's side held on in the closing stages to
move to 12 points, two ahead of Ireland, who won 2-0 at home
to Georgia.
Defender Bernt Haas put Switzerland in front with a header from Hakan
Yakin's corner after 10 minutes only for Altin Lala to level for Albania
after 23 minutes.
Alexander Frei put the hosts back in front shortly after the half-hour
mark, while midfielder Ricardo Cabanas added a third for Switzerland
after 72 minutes.
An Ervin Skela penalty four minutes from time set
up a tense finale.
